Electricity volumes marketed within the day

The electricity volumes of the four transmission system operators (TSOs) result from the difference between the volume forecast and marketed on the previous day and the feed-in expected from the intraday short-term forecast.

If grid operators purchase electricity positions via intraday trading, this is shown as a positive electricity volume, whereas if they sell electricity positions via intraday trading, this is shown as a negative electricity volume.

Please note that prior to 01.01.2015, only hourly publication of the values was planned. Accordingly, the data contains four equal quarter-hourly values.

Intraday electricity market

In the intraday electricity market - the intraday trading of electricity volumes - electricity is bought or sold on the same day that it is generated or consumed.

This market works in addition to the day-ahead market (previous day's spot market) and offers companies and traders the opportunity to adjust their positions in real time based on changes in supply and demand. Intraday trading is a crucial mechanism as it helps to balance electricity supply and demand and maintain system stability.

This market is also used by renewable energy producers to market their electricity.
